Medieval Castle

Herstmonceux Castle is rich in history dating back to the 15th Century, commissioned by Sir Roger Fiennes, Treasurer to the Household of Henry VI. The moated castle was purchased and then gifted to Queen’s University, Canada by industrialist and philanthropist Alfred Bader and his wife Isabel. The south west gatehouse and adjacent elevation is currently undergoing restoration works.

Temporary Closure

We are sorry to inform you that we will be closed on Friday, 13th June and also from Monday to Friday 16th-20th June, to allow for the fitting of a new drainage system.

This is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the Herstmonceux Castle Estate in a good condition, and preserving it for your enjoyment. The Observatory Science Centre is not affected and will continue it’s usual operations.
