A day in the life of Barry, our wonderfully knowledgable tour guide.
Barry is one of our dedicated team of tour guides and is usually on duty most Sundays.
Before the first tour of the day, he checks with reception to see if there are any rooms that cannot be accessed. As the castle is a working university campus, tours are scheduled around the academic calendar and any private events taking place.
His next task is unlocking the rooms featured on the tours.
Having confirmed the number of people on a tour, he collects them from the Visitor Centre and begins the castle’s story in front of the imposing outer walls.
Most visitors are surprised at the unique and varied history of the castle.
Barry also works ‘up the road’ at The Science Centre, enabling him to combine his interest in both history and astronomy.
